Three Year Old Girl Dies as Termite Weakened House Collapses in Mandera

A three year old girl has died while her two year old younger sister sustained serious head injuries after a mud walled house collapsed in Boqonssar Village, Rhamudimtu, Mandera North.

The incident occurred on Friday at about 5pm according to a report filed at Rhamu Police Station.

Police said the house, belonging to Ahmed Hajji, had reportedly been weakened by termite infestation over a long period before it suddenly collapsed, trapping the two children inside.

The deceased was identified as Miski Hajji Ahmed, aged three, who died at the scene.

Her younger sister, Imran Ahmed Hajji, aged two, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Rhamu Sub-County Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.

Police officers and the area assistant chief, Hashim Adow Abdi, rushed to the scene following the incident and confirmed the deaths and injuries.

The body of the deceased was removed to Rh amudimtu Level 3A Hospital, where a clinical postmortem was conducted before it was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers from Mandera North are handling investigations into the incident.
