Seventy three students and officials were left stranded at the JKIA after discovering that they had no air tickets to travel to Malaysia for an international chess event.
The incident was reported on Saturday by Joseph Kihato, principal of Gilgil Academy, who was accompanying parents and students from different schools.
According to the report, the group had paid the Chess Kenya Federation to arrange air tickets for 113 passengers, comprising officials and students, who were scheduled to travel to Malaysia for a chess tournament set to begin on October 5.
However, upon arriving at JKIA, they received a rude shock after discovering that 73 passengers, mainly students, had not been issued with air tickets.
The matter was reported to a multi agency team convened at JKIA Police Station, where it was deliberated upon.
It was subsequently agreed that the case be handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at JKIA for further investigations.
Police have classified the matter as obtaining money by false pretences, with investigations ongoing.
