A rental houses caretaker is in police custody following a violent altercation with a tenant that escalated into a stabbing incident in Tassia’s Mabatini area, Embakasi,Nairobi.
In a report made at Tassia Police Post, the incident was first brought to police attention by Nyumba Kumi elder Edwin Bosire, who alerted police about a case of mob injustice targeting a woman in the area.
Officers from Embakasi Police Station responded swiftly and found that the situation stemmed from a dispute between the caretaker, identified as Cynthia Kavatha, and a tenant, Winston Kwendo.
Police investigations indicate that the caretaker had gone to collect rent when an argument broke out between the two.
In the course of the confrontation, Kavatha allegedly removed an iron sheet from the structure and used a knife to stab the tenant multiple times.
Good Samaritans rushed the injured tenant to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he remains admitted in unstable condition with multiple stab wounds to the ribs and abdomen.
Following the incident, members of the public turned on the caretaker, subjecting her to mob justice before police intervened.
Officers rescued her and took her to Tassia Kwanjenge Level 4 Hospital, where she was treated and later discharged.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody pending further investigations.
Police confirmed that the knife used in the attack was recovered and preserved as an exhibit.
