Hard times for Wavinya as re-election battle intensifies in Machakos

By Our Reporter,Machakos.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is facing mounting political pressure as early signals indicate a tough re-election contest ahead of next year’s polls.

A cross-section of residents who spoke to DNK-International expressed growing dissatisfaction with her leadership, placing her third in the emerging political pecking order within the county.

Leading the pack, according to the residents, is Mavoko MP Patrick Makau King’ola of the Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya, who is also the Linda Mwananchi Eastern coordinator.

Many locals describe him as the frontrunner, citing his strong grassroots connection and development record.

Coming in second is Waita Nzioka, a former State House senior official allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Residents argue that Governor Wavinya’s declining popularity stems from what they term as underwhelming service delivery and unmet expectations across key sectors.

“Makau remains the man to beat. He has wananchi support at the grassroots. Makau also has a clean development track record and has been tried and tested,” said Pascal Mutisya, a resident of Machakos town.

Makau currently serves as Chairman of Security and Development at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), further boosting his leadership profile ahead of the anticipated political showdown.

As the race begins to take shape, political observers say the coming months will be critical in determining whether Wavinya can regain public confidence or face a major upset at the ballot.
