Family buries wrong body after mortuary mix up in Nyamira

By Our Correspondent,Nyamira.

Residents of Nyamaramaba Village in Nyamira County are grappling with shock and confusion after a family discovered they had buried the wrong body due to an apparent mortuary mix-up.

In a report filed at Sengera Police Station yesterday by James Omesa, the son of the late Bonareri Boyani,he told officers that their family unknowingly buried the remains of Grace Moraa Baranaba on April 22, 2026, instead of their kin.

The error is said to have originated from Ram Funeral Hospital, where both bodies had been preserved.

The mix up only came to light when James Omwoyo, an in-law to the late Grace Moraa Baranaba, visited the facility seeking to trace her missing body.

Mortuary officials later confirmed that her remains had mistakenly been released to another family and subsequently buried in Nyamaramaba Village.

Police officers from Sengera Police Station, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Manga Sub-County, visited and documented the scene as investigations began.

Both affected families have now appealed for police intervention to facilitate the exhumation process and ensure each deceased is accorded a proper and dignified burial.
