GBV WATCH:Two teenage girls rescued from forced early marriages

Two teenage girls have been rescued from early marriages in a coordinated operation in Gongoni area, Matsangoni sub-location,Kilifi county.

Yesterday’s operation was led by the area Assistant County Commissioner Mercy Kavoi, OCS Matsangoni, Dennis Mwagona, the area chief, assistant chiefs, and police officers.

During the operation, officers rescued 17 year old DDD who was reportedly married off to a man identified as Charo Kahindi.

Authorities suspect the girl is four months pregnant.

The suspect fled the scene and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

In a related incident within the same locality, officers also rescued another 17 year old,MMM who had allegedly been married to a man identified as Alfani Chengo, believed to be working in Malindi.

The girl was found with a one month-old baby.

Both victims were taken to hospital for medical attention and issued with P3 forms as part of the investigation process.

Police confirmed that the girls have since been reunited with their families and advised to return to school as investigations continue.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects as efforts intensify to curb cases of child marriage in the region.
