Notorious stolen phone receiver arrested, 289 mobile phones recovered

Police in Kisii town have arrested a suspected notorious receiver of stolen mobile phones following an operation conducted by local police.

The operation was carried out today morning at St. Judes Building within Kisii town.

Harrison Ndirangu Mwirerie, the suspect had earlier been arrested on Wednesday night.

Detectives, accompanied by officers from M-KOPA Kenya⁠,revisited the premises to conduct further searches and recovery operations.

Investigators established that the suspect is believed to be a notorious receiver of stolen mobile phones, with several previous reports allegedly lodged against him at Kisii Central and Keroka Police Station.

During the search, officers recovered:
56 M-KOPA HMD and Nokia smartphones.

233 assorted mobile phones of different makes and models suspected to be stolen.

Police said all recovered items were retained as exhibits pending identification and further investigations.

The suspect remains in police custody awaiting arraignment in court, while investigations continue under the Kisii Central Sub-County Police command.
