A licensed civilian firearm has been reported missing in Nairobi’s South C area after a domestic dispute between a man and his wife.
The incident escalated into a dramatic sequence of events involving a missing briefcase, a disappearing driver, and an abandoned vehicle.
According to a police report made at Embakasi Police Station yesterday evening, the complainant, Ibrahim Haji Issack, a resident of Akiba Estate in South C, reported that the incident began on May 25 following an altercation with his wife, Mariam Ahmed.
Police said the disagreement led to the wife threatening to leave their matrimonial home.
As she packed her belongings, Ibrahim reportedly picked a briefcase containing family valuables, including gold items and his licensed Glock pistol.
The firearm was loaded with two magazines, each containing 10 rounds of 9 ammunition.
He then left the residence aboard his son’s motor vehicle, a black Toyota Crown which was being driven by his personal driver identified as John Bosco Munyao.
While travelling along Mombasa Road, Ibrahim allegedly received a call from his brother-in-law, Mohammed Ahmed, who demanded the return of a briefcase said to contain his sister’s valuables.
Ibrahim reportedly told him he would return after completing his errands.
The report further states that the complainant later stopped at a cyber cafe along Mombasa Road to make photocopies, but left behind the driver who suddenly drove off with the vehicle.
Efforts to contact the driver through his mobile phone were unsuccessful, forcing Ibrahim to use a motorcycle to return home. Upon arrival, he discovered that his wife had already moved out with her belongings.
The vehicle, together with the driver and the briefcase containing the firearm, firearm permit, and other valuables, were all missing at the time.
Police later recovered the abandoned Toyota Crown at Imara Mall parking yard.
Officers found the ignition keys and parking chips inside the vehicle, but the briefcase containing the pistol and valuables was missing.
Police have since launched efforts to trace the missing driver and recover the firearm.
