Tension gripped Lenana High School in Nairobi on Monday night after students staged a protest within the institution, alleging mismanagement of school funds among other grievances.
According to a report filed at Riruta Police Station, the unrest was reported by the school’s principal, Samuel Kemei, who alerted police after students turned unruly.
Police officers from the area rushed to the school and found a large group of students shouting and hurling stones, damaging window panes at the school’s auditorium, library and laboratory.
The students reportedly accused the school’s management of financial impropriety and raised several other concerns regarding the running of the institution.
The situation, however, was brought under control after the principal addressed the agitated students and engaged them on their grievances.
Following the intervention, the students calmed down and returned to their respective dormitories without further incident.
No injuries were reported during the unrest, although the school sustained damage to several facilities.
