A police officer has reportedly died after collapsing shortly after participating in Madaraka Day celebrations at Wajir Stadium yesterday.

The officer, identified as Police Constable Hassan Moyo reportedly collapsed at about 9:05 a.m. immediately after the parade march past during the national celebrations.

According to a police report recorded yesterday, fellow officers and emergency responders swiftly rushed him to Wajir County Referral Hospital for medical attention.

Medical personnel undertook resuscitation efforts, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead at around 10:00 a.m.

Hospital assessments indicated that the officer succumbed to a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack.

The incident cast a sombre mood over the celebrations as colleagues, family members and members of the security fraternity mourned the sudden loss of the officer, who had actively participated in the day’s national event before the tragic occurrence.

Police have documented the incident as a sudden death, and the family has been informed as arrangements for further procedures continue.
