A KDF sergeant has been shot dead by suspected cattle rustlers during a livestock theft incident in Laikipia County early today.
According to a pilice report recorded at Nanyuki Police Station, the incident was reported by Captain Mutai of the Laikipia Military Police.
He stated that his colleague Sergeant Martin Kamau Mbugua was attacked and fatally shot by individuals believed to be cattle rustlers at his homestead.
The attackers are reported to have stolen 50 goats and sheep and 13 head of cattle before fleeing the scene.
Police officers from Nanyuki Police Station alongside detectives from Laikipia East, and Scenes of Crime personnel visited and processed the scene as investigations commenced.
The body of the deceased was subsequently moved to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identities of the attackers and recover the stolen livestock.
