A 23-year-old woman and her one year three month old son have been found dead inside their house in Kanduyi, Bungoma South in what police suspect to be a murder-suicide incident.

According to a police report, the incident was reported at Kanduyi Police Post today a few minutes to noon by George Mwangi, who stated that he returned home from work at about 8:00 a.m. and found the house locked from inside.

His wife, identified as Joy Wambui Tabitha, was not responding to his calls.

With the assistance of the caretaker, the door was broken open, revealing the body of Joy Wambui lying lifeless on a bed.

Beside her was the body of their son, identified as P.W., aged one year and three months.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the mother may have taken her own life after allegedly causing the death of the child.

Police officers and detectives from the DCI led by the Bungoma South DCIO visited and processed the scene at Luusajela B Village in Tuuti Sub-Location, Kibabii Location.

Investigators recovered assorted medicines from a table inside the house and a syringe that was found on the bed near the child’s body.

No visible physical injuries were observed on either body.

The scene was documented, and the bodies were moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examinations to establish the exact causes of death.

Police have classified the matter as a case pending under investigation (PUI), with detectives from Bungoma South Sub-County continuing with inquiries.
