Ruto Issues Tough Warning to Goons and Their Sponsors Ahead of Planned Gen Z Anniversary Protests

By Our Reporter,Kapsabet.

President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to criminal gangs and their sponsors, declaring that the government will intensify its crackdown on individuals who infiltrate peaceful demonstrations to loot property, destroy businesses and cause chaos.

Speaking in Nandi County during the burial of Mama Zipporah Kosgey, the wife of former Cabinet Minister and ODM Chairman Henry Kosgey, the President said Kenya would not tolerate lawlessness perpetrated by organized gangs allegedly backed by powerful sponsors seeking to destabilize the country.

Ruto emphasized that while every Kenyan has a constitutional right to peaceful assembly and expression, criminal elements who exploit protests to engage in violence, vandalism and theft would face the full force of the law.

He warned that security agencies had been directed to pursue both the perpetrators and those financing their activities.

The President’s remarks come amid growing political activity ahead of a planned commemoration of victims who died during the June 2024 Gen Z protests.

A section of civil rights activists and opposition leaders, including former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Martha Karua, Kivutha Kibwana and Boniface Mwangi, have called for next Thursday to be observed as a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives during the demonstrations.

The planned event is expected to draw renewed national attention to the protests that shook the country in 2024, even as the government maintains that any acts of violence, destruction or intimidation disguised as protest will not be tolerated.
