DNK International Police in Mombasa have rescued a man accused of allegedly causing the disappearance of a boda boda rider’s private parts through suspected witchcraft.
He was rescued after an angry mob attempted to attack him in Nyali.
The incident was reported by Joseph Ngala Muche, a boda boda rider operating at Shauri Yako Stage.
The complainant alleged that at about 10:00 a.m. on June 22,he ferried a passenger identified as Ristley Nyimiri, 46, an ICT employee with Gonnet Design Ltd and a resident of Nyali, to the Governor’s Office in Mombasa.
Upon reaching the Shell Petrol Station in Mkomani, the rider claimed that his private parts had disappeared after being touched by the passenger.
The allegation quickly spread among fellow boda boda riders, triggering unrest and attracting a large crowd.
The suspect sought refuge at AJS Club, where private security officers attempted to protect him from the increasingly hostile mob.
Police officers from Kongowea Police Station responded to the scene but were initially overwhelmed by the crowd, which had gathered outside the club’s main gate and was pelting stones at security personnel.
Reinforcements were subsequently dispatched from Nyali Police Station, the Quick Response Team (QRT), and Tononoka Police Station.
The reinforcement team managed to rescue the suspect after firing warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
Following the rescue, the suspect was escorted to Tononoka Police Station and placed in protective custody.
Investigations later established that the complainant’s private parts were intact, effectively disproving the alleged witchcraft claim.
Police confirmed that no member of the public was injured during the incident.
