David Ruto:President William Ruto’s Youngest Brother

By Our Correspondent,Nairobi

David Ruto, the youngest brother of President William Samoei Ruto, is widely regarded as one of the key figures who now work behind the scenes in his brother’s government.

Unlike many individuals associated with power, David has largely stayed away from the public spotlight, preferring to operate quietly and behind the scenes despite his close proximity to the President.

Born and raised in rural Kenya, David’s early life mirrored that of many children of his generation.

He walked barefoot for kilometres to school and experienced the challenges that defined life in the countryside.

After completing his secondary education, he moved to the United States to pursue higher studies.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Management Information Systems from Indiana State University before obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

David began his professional career in 2000 as an Assistant Production Planner at Digital Audio Disc Corporation in Indiana.

He later rose through various positions within the company, serving as Shipping Manager and subsequently as Systems and ERP Administrator between 2003 and 2006.

From September 2006 to March 2007, he worked as an MIS Trainer before joining Columbus IT as a consultant, a role he held from April 2007 to November 2010.

He later joined Hitachi Solutions America, where he occupied several managerial positions until 2018.

After spending nearly two decades in the United States, David returned to Kenya.

President Ruto has publicly stated that he personally encouraged his younger brother to come back home and contribute to the country’s development.

David played a significant role in the 2022 presidential campaign that propelled William Ruto to State House.

As a member of the President’s inner circle, often referred to as the “kitchen cabinet,” he is credited with providing strategic and technological expertise that supported the campaign’s operations.

Upon his return to Kenya, David was appointed Managing Director of Kreative Concrete Products.

He later founded Kirongosi Group, where he works as a consultant and partner on development projects involving governments and other stakeholders.

His areas of expertise include information technology strategy, enterprise resource planning, business analysis and solution architecture.

Despite his influence and proximity to the Presidency, David holds no government office or public appointment.

He remains a private businessman who prefers a low profile lifestyle.

Away from business and politics, David’s personal life has also attracted public interest.

In 2019, he held a traditional engagement ceremony, known as a koito, with Carol Kitur.

The ceremony was led by then Deputy President William Ruto, alongside then Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who participated in the dowry negotiations.

The couple later celebrated their wedding on December 15, 2023, at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nyeri County.

The ceremony was attended by President Ruto, First Lady Rachael Ruto, senior Kenya Kwanza administration officials and several prominent political leaders.
