Police officers in Thika West have arrested 13 people following a raid on a suspected brothel during an ongoing security operation targeting criminal activities and psychotropic drugs in the area.
According to police, the operation was conducted on Monday morning after officers acted on reports regarding illegal activities taking place at a rented house located within a gated apartment complex in the Maranatha area of Chania One Estate.
During the raid, officers arrested the house tenant, identified as Beatrice Waitherero Irungu, who is alleged to have been operating a brothel and detaining individuals for immoral purposes.
Police recovered several items from the premises, including assorted computers and tablets, ring lights, massage oils, adult paraphernalia, and ten rolls of cannabis believed to have been intended for illegal use and distribution.
Twelve other individuals, aged between 18 and 30 years, were also detained.
They include Paul Kamau Wangari, Glen Atuta Mburu, Abdi Osman Hersi, Renson Etiir Lokatoi, Alice Njeri Ndung’u, Amina Said Omar, Jane Marubu, Lydia Ekunoit Kerio, Monica Mueni Masinu, Brenda Wanjiku Nyambura, Dorcas Njeri Njuguna and Grace Akiai Nyasike.
Investigators indicated that the suspects are expected to face charges related to living on the earnings of prostitution, aiding, abetting or compelling individuals to engage in sex work, among other offences under Kenyan law.
All suspects were escorted to Ngoingwa Police Station, where they remain in custody together with the recovered exhibits pending their arraignment at the Thika Law Courts.
Police said investigations are ongoing under the supervision of officers attached to Ngoingwa Police Station as part of the broader “Operation Maliza Uhalifu” crackdown aimed at combating crime and drug-related activities within Kiambu County.
