Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery through continuous staff development, while commending Public Communication Officers for their vital role in keeping residents informed about government programmes and development initiatives.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of a capacity building training programme at Mombasa Beach Hotel, Wavinya praised the officers for their professionalism, dedication, and contribution to promoting transparency and accountability within the county government.
“You have been doing a good job. Keep up the good work,” the Governor told participants.
The training brought together communication officers from various county departments and focused on enhancing skills in strategic communication, media relations, digital communication, stakeholder engagement, crisis communication, public participation, and government branding.
Governor Wavinya emphasized that effective communication remains a cornerstone of good governance, noting that government programmes can only achieve their intended impact when citizens are aware of them and understand how they benefit from them.
She described communication officers as a critical bridge between the government and residents, responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and relevant information reaches the public.
According to the Governor, continuous professional development is necessary to help officers adapt to the rapidly evolving information landscape and effectively utilize modern communication platforms.
“Our commitment is to continue investing in our staff because a knowledgeable and skilled workforce is the foundation of efficient service delivery,” she said.
The Governor further noted that communication is not only about sharing information but also about building trust, fostering transparency, and strengthening citizen engagement in governance and development processes.
Machakos County Secretary Dr. Muya Ndambuki also lauded the communications team, crediting them with enhancing the county’s visibility and showcasing development achievements.
He said the county’s communication function has grown significantly over the years and urged officers to maintain professionalism and teamwork.
“When we started, I did not know we would be where we are now. Let us continue with the good work,” said Dr. Ndambuki.
Participants expressed appreciation to the county government for investing in their professional growth, describing the training as practical and informative.
They pledged to apply the knowledge gained to improve public engagement and information dissemination.
County officials said the programme forms part of broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, innovation, and service delivery across Machakos County.
