A senior Somali government official was deported from Kenya after immigration authorities at Nairobi’s JKIA accused him of fraudulently acquiring a Kenyan passport.
According to a police report from JKIA Police Station, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, arrived at Terminal 2 of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on June 24, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. aboard Saacid Airline Flight from Mogadishu.
The report states that Haji presented a valid Somali diplomatic passport and a valid Kenyan visa during routine immigration clearance.
However, immigration officials reportedly suspected that he had fraudulently acquired a Kenyan passport.
During questioning, the Somali official allegedly admitted possessing the Kenyan passport but declined to surrender it to authorities, insisting that he could only produce the document before a court of law.
Following the interrogation,Haji was detained at the VIP Lounge within Terminal 2 as immigration authorities processed the matter.
He was subsequently issued with a ticket aboard Daallo Airline Flight D3301 for his return to Mogadishu.
The Deputy Prime Minister departed Kenya on June 25 at 6:45 a.m. without any reported incident.
Kenyan authorities had not issued an official public statement on the matter by the time of publication, while there was also no immediate response from the Somali government regarding the allegations.
