Talks aimed at reopening NTV Uganda, the Daily Monitor, and other media outlets associated with Nation Media Group (NMG) have begun following their recent shutdown by the Ugandan government.
The discussions gained momentum after Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with businessman and NMG owner Rostam Aziz at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe on Wednesday.
Aziz was accompanied by his son, Saam Aziz, and Ms. Georgia Mutagaywa, the Chief of Staff of Taarifa Limited, the parent organization of Nation Media Group in Uganda.
While details of the meeting were not immediately made public, the engagement has raised expectations that negotiations are underway to restore the operations of the affected media outlets.
The Ugandan government recently ordered the closure of NTV Uganda, the Daily Monitor, and other NMG-affiliated platforms, prompting concerns over media freedom and access to information.
