A tense confrontation erupted outside Royal Gardens Hotel in Ol’Kalou, Nyandarua County, on Wednesday night after a group of individuals believed to be supporters of the DCP attempted to force their way into the venue where political leaders associated with UDA were holding a meeting.
According to a police report filed at Ol’Kalou Police Station,the incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. after unknown riders accompanied by politicians sympathetic to the DCP arrived at the hotel’s main gate demanding entry.
The hotel was hosting members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and other senior politicians at the time.
Fearing the group could disrupt the gathering, security officers, led by the Nyandarua County Commander, the Nyandarua Central Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC), the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Ol’Kalou, and other officers, responded to the distress call.
Police denied the group access, triggering a fierce confrontation outside the hotel.
Officers were forced to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and prevent the situation from escalating.
During the chaos, two vehicles believed to belong to the Deputy Speaker of the Nyandarua County Assembly and the Deputy Majority Leader were reportedly used to block the hotel’s main entrance.
Several motorcycles were abandoned at the scene after sustaining damage during the confrontation.
Police impounded the motorcycles and detained them at Ol’Kalou Police Station pending identification of their owners and possible prosecution.
The group later moved to the JM Hospital area, where they barricaded the Nyahururu–Ol’Kalou road, disrupting traffic.
Police officers from Nyandarua Central and Nyandarua West sub-counties responded and dispersed the protesters, restoring normalcy.
Police said the situation has since been brought under control and the area remains calm as investigations continue.
