A family in Matungulu,Machakos County is counting losses after armed robbers raided their home in the early hours of Thursday, making away with mobile phones and a laptop before raping a domestic worker.
According to police, the incident was reported at KBC Police Station by the homeowner, Rebecca Maroa, who said an unknown number of assailants wearing hoodies stormed her residence at Kunda Kindu area at around 1:00 a.m.
The gang reportedly ordered the occupants to surrender cash and mobile phones.
Finding no cash in the house, the suspects stole several mobile phones and a laptop.
Police further confirmed that during the robbery, a female worker identified as PGM was sexually assaulted.
Officers from KBC Police Station, detectives from the DCI Matungulu, and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Kangundo visited and processed the scene.
Preliminary investigations established that the attackers gained entry by jumping over the perimeter wall before breaking through a window that lacked security grills.
The survivor was escorted to Mama Lucy Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Police have launched investigations and intensified efforts to identify and arrest the suspects, with the case being handled by DCI Matungulu.
