Security agencies have raised concern over an alleged plan by a group identified as JOPO to invade land earmarked for the resettlement of Gazi squatters in Kwale County.
According to security information, the group is reportedly mobilizing and inciting members of the public to occupy about 252 acres of land located in the Zero Zero area of Msambweni Sub-County.
The group is said to consist of individuals who claim they were left out of a previous land resettlement programme after being evicted from land owned by Msambweni Development Company (MDC).
Authorities indicate that the group is also threatening to occupy the remaining 3,200 acres belonging to the company if their grievances are not addressed.
In response to the reported plans, local security officials have urged community leaders and Nyumba Kumi committees to conduct public awareness meetings to educate residents on the legal consequences of illegal land invasions.
Police have also intensified patrols in the affected areas to prevent any unlawful occupation of land.
Security officials warned that any successful invasion could encourage similar incidents, especially following the recent presidential directive on the resettlement of squatters in Kwale County, potentially creating a wider burden for the government.
Investigations and security monitoring remain ongoing.
