A family in Kamulu, Nairobi County, was left traumatised after five armed robbers broke into their home in the early hours of Tuesday and stole Sh585,000 in cash along with four mobile phones.
According to a police report filed at Kamulu Police Station, the incident occurred at around 3.00 a.m. when the gang stormed the residence of 50 year old Jacob Muturi Thirimbi while he and his family were asleep.
The assailants, one of whom was armed with an object resembling a pistol while the others wielded pangas and metal rods, overpowered the homeowner before tying him up with sisal rope.
The gang reportedly escaped with the cash which the complainant said had been withdrawn from a KCB Bank account and an M-Pesa account.
They also made away with four mobile phones, including an iPhone, Vivo, Nokia and Itel handset.
Police officers from Kamulu Police Station, assisted by Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) officers from Ruai, visited the scene and established that the suspects had gained entry into the house after cutting through the metal grills on the sitting room window.
No injuries were reported during the robbery.
The case is under investigation by detectives from DCI Ruai, who are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects.
