Police in Garissa County have launched investigations into the disappearance of two schoolboys who are feared to have been taken to Somalia for possible recruitment into the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
The missing boys, aged 15 and 13, are Grade Three pupils at Bulla Mzuri Primary School in Garissa Town.
According to a report filed at Garissa Police Station, they had been living with their grandmother after their father reportedly joined Al-Shabaab in Somalia in 2018.
Investigators suspect the boys were picked up from their school on July 6 by their uncle before allegedly being taken across the border to reunite with their father, who is believed to be an Al-Shabaab operative.
Police further indicated that the boys’ father is suspected of involvement in the January 26, 2026 terrorist attack in Hulugho Sub-County that claimed the lives of Hulugho Chief Abdifatah Mohamed Owl and teacher Stephen Vundi Musili.
Police added that efforts are underway to verify the information, trace the missing children and locate the suspected recruiter, whose mobile phone has since been switched off.
The case is being handled by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in Garissa, with police saying investigations are ongoing.
