A man who posed as a Nairobi City County enforcement officer and exported money from a motorist has been convicted and sentenced by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court over bribery and impersonation offences.
The court on Thursday, July found Osborne Juma Olande guilty following investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which established that he falsely presented himself as an enforcement officer attached to the Nairobi City County Inspectorate Department.
According to the EACC, Olande deceived a complainant into believing he had the authority to facilitate the release of an impounded motorcycle and proceeded to solicit and receive bribes in exchange for the purported service.
The court convicted him on four counts of receiving bribes and one count of impersonation after finding that he fraudulently misrepresented himself as a county officer to obtain money from the complainant.
He was fined a total of Sh237,000 across the five counts.
In default of payment, Olande will serve a jail term of up to one year.
