A cache of 30 water gel explosive sticks was recovered from a farm in Vigenze Village, South Maragoli Location, Vihiga county.
The discovery was made after a resident alerted police of suspicious objects she discovered while cultivating her land.
According to police, the explosives were found on Wednesday by Purity Serana when she reported seeing sausage like objects concealed in a colourless plastic bag on her farm.
A team of officers led by the area OCPD visited the scene and recovered the 30 orange-coloured water gel explosives, each labelled “Water Gel Explosives.”

Bomb disposal experts from the Western Region were immediately called to the scene.
After examining the recovered materials, they confirmed that the explosives are commonly used in the mining sector.
The explosives were subsequently taken into safe custody by the Officer in Charge of the Bomb and Hazardous Materials Disposal Unit, Western Region.
Police said no injuries or damage were reported during the recovery operation.
Investigations have been launched, with the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in the Western Region taking over the case to establish how the explosives ended up hidden on the farm and to identify those responsible.
