President William Ruto is reportedly reassessing his political strategy following the defeat of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Samuel Muchina Nyagah, to Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau in the Ol Kalou by-election held yesterday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the President is said to be dissatisfied after receiving assurances from some key campaign strategists, including senior government officials and State House operatives, that the UDA candidate would secure victory.
The campaign reportedly involved extensive mobilization efforts, with residents allegedly receiving various forms of support, including mattresses, foodstuffs, gas cylinders, and a boat intended to help locals cross a nearby river.
Sources further claim that the election outcome has prompted President Ruto to review the effectiveness of members of his political campaign team as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum. The review is said to include consideration of whether to retain the current campaign strategists or bring in new personnel.
Political analysts who spoke to DNK-International said the Ol Kalou by-election result could influence future political and administrative decisions within the government as the President seeks to strengthen his re-election campaign ahead of next year’s General Election.
