Police in Garissa have arrested two suspected handlers of stolen mobile phones and recovered 105 used mobile phones, two laptops and several mobile phone accessories during an operation.
According to a police report, officers from Garissa Police Station raided a phone repair shop on Mums Street in Madogo Township on Sunday.
The operation led to the arrest of Ibrahim Ali Ghotiko, 35, and Osman Kulumiye Sabul, 20.
During the raid, police recovered 105 assorted used mobile phones, two laptops believed to have been used to reprogramme stolen devices, and various phone accessories.
Two of the recovered mobile phones were positively identified as having been stolen during a robbery at Bulla Sagare on July 9.
Investigators suspect the remaining phones were stolen from members of the public in Garissa town and its surrounding areas.
The recovered items were inventoried and the suspects placed in police custody.
Police are expected to seek custodial orders from the Garissa Law Courts on Monday to detain the suspects to allow complainants to identify their stolen phones, facilitate identification parades, recover more exhibits and pursue additional suspects believed to be linked to the syndicate.
