A 53 year old man has been brutally killed by a mob in Tigania Central, Meru County after being accused of cattle theft.
The deceased, identified as Jacob Ithalie Muthuri, was abducted from his home at Nturuka Village, Mikinduri East Location, at around midnight on July 18 by a group of about 50 people armed with pangas and other crude weapons.
According to a report made by his wife, Mary Karimi, the attackers forcefully entered their house while the couple was asleep, assaulted both of them and dragged Muthuri to an unknown destination.
His body was discovered the following morning at Athwana Village with multiple deep cut wounds.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers accused him of involvement in cattle theft.
Police officers from Mikinduri Police Station and DCI officers from Tigania Central visited the scene and examined the body before it was moved to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the mob killing are ongoing as detectives work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
