A businessman has been robbed of Sh850,000 by two armed men on a motorcycle in a daring daylight attack near Fun City Hotel along the Eastern Bypass in Ruai, Nairobi.

According to police, the victim, Alex Munyiri, had withdrawn Sh250,000 from an I&M Bank branch in Utawala, opposite the Administration Police Training School, at around 8.30 a.m.

He already had Sh600,000 in his vehicle, a white Toyota Passo before combining the cash in a white bag.

He was driving towards Tatu City to purchase foodstuffs for his retail business when a motorcycle struck the left side mirror of his vehicle, forcing him to stop.

As he rolled down his window to assess the damage, the motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, allegedly snatched the vehicle’s ignition key.

At the same time, the passenger, described as smartly dressed, entered the front passenger seat, drew a pistol and grabbed the bag containing Sh850,000.

The suspects then dropped the ignition key on the roadside, mounted their motorcycle and sped off towards Ruai Bypass.

The complainant told investigators that the motorcycle’s registration plate had been concealed with a piece of cloth.

Officers from Mawe Mbili Police Post and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Ruai visited the scene and launched investigations. The suspects remain at large.
