A Ministry of Public Service communication official was found in a stupefied and motionless state at a guest house in Makutano, Meru County, in an incident that has triggered investigations into suspected drugging and theft.
John Ndungu had booked a room at Redcapet Guest House near Total Petrol Station before later visiting Black Perch Club, where he reportedly met an unidentified woman whom he subsequently accompanied to his room.
His colleagues, John Muasa and Nathan Nyaga, later found him apparently unable to respond normally and sought medical assistance.
He was admitted to Lifecare Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Several items, including ministry communication equipment, were reported missing.
They include two Sony video cameras valued at approximately Sh1.6 million, a Canon EOS R camera, a Sony PXW-220 camera and a Redmi 16 Pro mobile phone.
Police searching the room recovered two cans of Tusker Lite, a Fanta Blackcurrant drink and a used HIV self-test kit, which were preserved as exhibits pending further examination.
Officers from Meru Police Station and the DCI Imenti North visited the scene and commenced investigations.
CCTV footage from the guest house and surrounding premises is being reviewed to trace the movements of Ndungu and the unidentified woman.
Investigators are seeking to establish what caused Ndungu’s condition, identify the woman and trace the missing equipment.
