Nine people have been injured following a confrontation between two neighbouring families at Balambala Market, Garissa County, after a dispute erupted over hay being distributed to local residents by the area chief.
Police officers led by Luke Maingi, the Deputy OCS of Balambala Police Station, visited the scene following an assault on Wednesday night.
According to the police report, members of the two families picked a quarrel before the disagreement escalated into a physical fight, leaving nine people with various injuries.
Those injured were identified as Adow Dhimbil, who sustained injuries to the head and both hands,Abdikarim Mohammed, who was injured on the head,Aden Yakub, who suffered injuries to the neck, left shoulder and right hand and Suleiman Yakub, who sustained injuries to the head and left hand.
Others were Bogane Ahmed, injured on the hands; Aden Yerrow, who sustained injuries to the head and left hand,Abdi Aden Yellow, injured on the left hand, Mariam Yakub, who sustained injuries to the left palm and left eye and Mohamud Aden Yerrow, who was injured on the head and back.
The injured persons were taken to Balambala Level 4 Hospital where they were treated and discharged in fair condition.
Police said investigations into the incident are continuing and a further report will follow.
