Man 96 removed from Church,stoned to death over witchcraft allegations in Kilifi

A 96 year old man was removed from a Church and stoned to death by a mob after he was accused of practising witchcraft in Kilifi North.

The deceased, identified as Mwanyamba Mwambura Mwanyamba, was reportedly attacked after an unidentified person took him outside Kajiweni Gospel Planters Ministry Church in Ufuoni B Village, where a church service was underway.

According to a police report, the elderly man was at the church before a group of people descended on him and stoned him.

Police said the man’s lifeless body was later found lying on the road about 30 metres from the church, with visible injuries to the head.

The incident was reported to Ngerenya Police Station by Chumani Location Assistant Chief Humphrey Chilyalya, who alerted police after receiving information about the alleged mob attack.

Officers from Ngerenya Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kilifi North and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Kilifi County rushed to the scene, led by Kilifi North Sub-County Police Commander Stanley Tonui and accompanied by Kilifi North Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Moses Lelogong.

The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers before the body was moved to Kilifi County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

The police have classified the matter as pending investigation, with DCI Kilifi North handling the case as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
