Former permanent secretary ministry of sports Ambassador Peter Karimi Kaberia was on Tuesday arraigned before the anti-corruption court at Milimani,Nairobi together with five others facing a graft charge of kenya Ksh 330 million meant to facillitate African Nation Championship (CHAN) of 2018.
The formers PS and former senior officers in the ministry of sports Peter Kaberia, Stephen Njoroge, Enock Onditi, Samuel Njoroge, Anthony Mwangi and John Kiende were producced before trial Magistrate Isabella Barasa where they denied graft charges facing them.
The accused through their defence lawyers Assah Nyakundi, Mwaura Kabate, Ndegwa Njiru and Omwansa Nyamweya pleaded with the court to have them released on a lenient cash bail or bond since they have demonstrated that they are not flight risk.
The court consequently ordered the former PS to deposit a cash bail of Sh 1,000,000 with an alternative bond of Sh 2,000,000 and one surety to secure his release pending trial.
The other accused persons were ordered to deposit a cash bail of Sh 600,000 or provide a bond of Sh 3000,000 plus one surety.
The court further directed all the accused persons to deposit their travel documents in court within seven days.
The trial magistrate issued summons to be served upon the other accused persons who did not attend court.
The matter will be mentioned on September 15 to confirm their compliance.
