Police in Pangani, Nairobi, have arrested a Tanzanian linked to robbery and recovered a mobile phone and a knife following a high speed chase involving boda boda riders.
The incident occurred on Sunday at around 1:30pm when a group of about 10 boda boda riders rode from the Kamukunji side of the city towards General Waruinge Road.
According to police, one of the riders, who had two pillion passengers, stopped and robbed Bashir Mohamed of his Tecno Spark mobile phone valued at Sh35,000.
An undercover police team from Pangani intervened and gave chase.
The rider and one of the pillion passengers escaped towards Majengo slums, while another suspect, identified as Bahati Yussuf Kanute, a Tanzanian national, was arrested.
Police said a search on Kanute led to the recovery of a penknife and the stolen phone, which was positively identified by the complainant.
The suspect was escorted to Pangani Police Station and placed in custody pending investigations and charging with robbery with violence.
The case is being handled by the Pangani Sub-County police team.
