A 23 year old man was shot dead along Kikuyu road,Nairobi after he and another person allegedly snatched a mobile phone from an armed man in Kawagware area.
Police said the incident occurred on Thursday evening with officers from Riruta Police Station responding to a report of an unidentified body lying on the road.
The deceased was identified as Steven Muriuki whose body was found lying facing down on the road near the Equity Bank area.
According to preliminary information gathered from members of the public, Muriuki and another man fled on a motorcycle after taking a mobile phone from an unknown armed person in Kawagware.
The armed man reportedly pursued them on another motorcycle and opened fire when he caught up with them near the Equity Bank area.
Muriuki fell from the moving motorcycle after being shot, while the person riding the motorcycle escaped.
The shooter recovered his phone before speeding away on the motorcycle.
Police said Muriuki had one visible gunshot wound.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Dagoretti, visited and processed the scene before the body was moved to the City Mortuary pending autopsy.
Investigators are searching for the cartridge believed to have been used in the shooting and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.
