Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into the sudden death of Kennedy Otieno Agalo, the ODM Chairman for Laini Saba Ward in Kibra Constituency.

The deceased aged 42 years old is reported to have died shortly after falling ill at a friend’s house in Kabiria area, Riruta.

According to a report filed at Kilimani Police Station, Agalo collapsed on the evening of Tuesday while in the company of friends.

He was found unconscious, vomiting and bleeding from the nose, prompting an emergency rush to Eagles Nursing Home along Naivasha Road.

After receiving first aid, medics referred him to Coptic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A man who accompanied the deceased to hospital, Collins Opondo, told police that he had been alerted by a woman identified only as Wambo, said to be Agalo’s girlfriend, who reported that he had suddenly taken a serious turn.

Upon arriving at her residence, Opondo found Agalo unresponsive and in distress.

Police officers later visited Coptic Hospital, confirmed the death and notified the deceased’s brother, Stephen Achia Agalo, who formally reported the matter.

Investigators said the body showed no visible external injuries and has been preserved at Coptic Mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

The case is being handled by DCI Kilimani.

Agalo’s sudden death has shocked political circles in Kibra, where he was a key grassroots mobiliser for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
