Police in Kandara,Murang’a county are investigating a case of a forced Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) involving a woman aged 23 years.
The woman reported to police that she was forcibly subjected to the outlawed practice without her consent.
According to a report filed at Kandara Police Station yesterday,the victim (name withheld) from Kirunguru Village, arrived at the station accompanied by relatives and reported that the incident occurred in December 2025.
She told officers that she was attacked by unknown persons and subjected to FGM, leaving her with severe injuries.
The young woman further alleged that she suspects her husband, identified as may have been involved in the incident.
She claimed that she may have been intoxicated before the assault and that her husband later threatened her to remain silent about the ordeal.
The suspect is currently at large.
Police officers escorted the victim to Kandara Sub County Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that her genitalia had been severely cut.
Due to the seriousness of her injuries, she was referred to Maragua Hospital for further specialized treatment.
Officers visited the scene as part of ongoing investigations, though no arrests had been made by the time of filing the report.
Police are ongoing on with their investigations.
