Three Police Officers Injured in Gachagua Kiambu Church visit

Three police officers were injured and several vehicles damaged on today after chaos broke out during a church service attended by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua in Gatundu South,Kiambu county.

The incident occurred at Kaireini AIPCA Church, where Gachagua was attending a service.

According to police, a group of goons blocked the Kigaa–Nembu Road at Kiamworia Centre, turning violent shortly after.

The mob reportedly went on a rampage, vandalizing three vehicles.

A minibus registration KCG 634R had all its windows smashed and its dashboard destroyed, while a Toyota Hiace (KCR 366P) suffered a broken windscreen and rear mirror, with its front bumper torn off.

A Toyota Sienta (KCP 852V) was extensively vandalized before being overturned by the attackers.

During efforts to restore order, three officers were injured.

Inspector Kipkorir Toroitich sustained injuries to the back and spine, Police Constable Moses Mbugua was injured in the right eye, and Constable John Sango suffered a leg injury.

Police managed to contain the unrest at around 3:30 pm, after which the former Deputy President was escorted away from the church for security reasons.

Fifteen suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into custody at Gatundu Police Station.

They are expected to be charged with malicious damage to property and participation in an unlawful assembly.

The damaged vehicles have been towed to the station to aid investigations.

Police say the situation has since been brought under control, with officers maintaining patrols in the area to prevent further disturbances.

They have indicated that further updates will be issued as investigations continue.
