Woman Launches 96 Hour Tree Hugging Protest at Laare Police Station

Police officers at Laare Police Station in Igembe North SubCounty are monitoring a peaceful protest of a woman who began a 96 hour tree hugging challenge within the station compound .

She began it on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the incident began at around 7:00 p.m. on January 14, 2026.

The woman has been identified as Octavia Kajuju who voluntarily walked into the station and positioned herself next to a tree near the station house.

She informed officers that she had chosen the location because she felt it was the safest place to carry out her challenge.

Kajuju was found carrying a placard outlining the reasons behind her protest, which she described as an awareness campaign focusing on several social and health issues.

These include discrimination against persons living with chronic medical conditions, mental illness awareness, advocacy for the welfare of the boy child, and the need for affordable and accessible medical care.

Police officers at the station confirmed that precautionary measures have been put in place to ensure her safety throughout the duration of the challenge.
