Fire Razes School Dormitory in Sotik, 40 Pupils Lose Belongings

A fire incident on Tuesday night destroyed a dormitory at Kriddol Academy Boarding and Day School in Siroin, Sotik Sub County.

The fire left dozens of pupil without personal belongings but no injuries was reported.

It affected a semi permanent iron sheet dormitory housing approximately 40 pupils.

The blaze destroyed beds, mattresses, bedding, students’ boxes and other personal effects before it was brought under control by teachers and members of the public.

Police from Kapletundo Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving a report from Chebirbelek Location Chief,Wesley Langat.

Officers confirmed that the fire had not been reported immediately after it started.

Despite the damage, all 375 pupils enrolled at the school were safely accounted for, and no injuries were recorded.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by a Grade Four pupil aged eight, who had recently been readmitted to the school after transferring from another institution within Bomet County.

Authorities emphasized that the child is being handled as a child in need of care and protection, in line with the law.

School proprietor, Richard Korir, cooperated with investigators as police documented and photographed the scene.
