Journalist, security expert and Nyali parliamentary aspirant in 2027 Elkana Jacob has announced plans to roll out a major Islamic Qur’anic competition (Musabaqa) targeting Muslim youth across all five wards of Nyali Constituency.
Speaking on Sunday at Masjid Abrar in Barsheba, Frere Town Ward, where he met Imams and Ustadhs during an Islamic gathering, Jacob said the initiative will be implemented through the Elkana Jacob Foundation and is expected to run throughout the holy month of Ramadhan.
He noted that the Musabaqa aims to inspire a deeper devotion to the Qur’an by encouraging its regular study, memorization, and practice, while nurturing a new generation of highly skilled Qur’an reciters and memorizers.
The competition will also serve as a platform to identify, mentor, and recognize emerging talent, preparing them for future leadership roles within the Islamic community.

Beyond religious education, Jacob emphasized that the programme is designed to address key social challenges affecting the youth, including drug abuse, sexual and gender based violence, and general insecurity.
He added that strengthening Islamic identity, reinforcing moral values, and promoting unity and harmony within the community remain central to the initiative.
“The Musabaqa is not only about competition, but about building character, faith, and a strong sense of togetherness among our youth and the wider Muslim community,” he said.
Further details on the launch and implementation of the Musabaqa are expected to be released in the coming days.
