Tension gripped Simotwo Boys Secondary School in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County, on Saturday evening after a section of students erupted in unrest following the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
According to a police report filed at Metkei Police Station, the disturbance broke out at around 7.00pm when students mainly from Forms Three’s and Four’s went on a rampage at the school in Metkei Ward.
The incident was reported by the school principal Barnabas Chebii.
Police officers, aided by local residents, responded swiftly to the distress call and managed to contain the situation before any damage could be inflicted on school property.
On spotting the officers, the rioting students reportedly jumped over the school’s perimeter fence and fled into the surrounding neighbourhood.
A roll call conducted shortly after revealed that out of a total student population of 436, only 177 students had remained within the school compound and did not participate in the unrest.
The whereabouts of the remaining 259 students were still unknown by nightfall.
Authorities confirmed that no damage was recorded within the school.
Police officers have since mounted a vigil at the institution to prevent any further disturbances as investigations continue.
Progress reports are expected to follow.
