A 25 year-old man was killed on Thursday after a crocodile attack along the shores of Lake Victoria at Achuodho Beach in Rachuonyo North SubCounty.
The victim, identified as Ezekiel George Ondieki, was reportedly fetching water and bathing at the lake when the crocodile struck and dragged him into deep waters.
According to a report filed at Kendubay Police Station,the incident was reported by Kamser Seka Sublocation Assistant Chief,Sabina Achieng.
Police officers from Kendubay together with detectives from the Rachuonyo North DCIO’s office, and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) wardens visited the scene shortly after the incident.
A coordinated search and recovery operation is currently underway, involving KWS officers and local fishermen, as efforts continue to retrieve the body and track the crocodile involved.
Members of the public living near the lake have been urged to exercise caution when accessing the shoreline.
