Former Siaya Police Commander Goes Missing With Official Vehicle After Handover

Police in Siaya have launched inquiries after a former County Police Commander reportedly failed to return an official vehicle following a formal handover ceremony, with his whereabouts remaining unknown.

According to an incident report filed at Siaya Police today, the incident occurred on January 22, 2026, shortly after the official handover between the outgoing County Police Commander Samuel Kobina and the incoming commander Lucy Kananu.

The report indicates that later that evening after handing over Kobina drove himself away in a government issued motor vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max which is officially assigned to the Siaya Sub County Police Commander.

Since then, the vehicle has not been returned.

Police in a report seen by Daily News Kenya-International state that Kobina’s whereabouts are currently unknown, and repeated attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful.

His mobile phone has reportedly been switched off, and text messages sent to him have gone unanswered.

Authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace both the former commander and the missing official vehicle.

A progress report is expected to be issued as investigations continue.

The incident has raised concern within local security circles due to the involvement of a senior police officer and the disappearance of government property.
