Two police officers attached to Awasi Traffic Base were today morning injured while on duty along the Kericho–Kisumu Road in Nyando.
According to an incident report filed at Awasi Police Station, the accident occurred on January at about 5:20 a.m. at the Quarry area.
The officers all Constables and identified as Bonface Githinji and Samwel Katana, had rushed to attend to a non injury road traffic accident earlier.
Initial accident that the officers were following had involved a trailer.
While the officers were clearing the obstruction from the road, another vehicle motor vehicle hauling trailer ZF 0962 approached from the Kericho direction at high speed, lost control, and veered off the road.
The officers managed to evade being hit but fell into a roadside ditch while escaping.
As a result,Constable Githinji sustained a dislocation of the right ankle, while Constable Katana suffered a cut wound on the right leg.
The out of control trailer subsequently rammed into the rear of the trailer.
Both officers were rushed to Ahero County Referral Hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged in fair condition.
