Police Foil Dormitory Arson Plot at Ribe Boys National School

Authorities are investigating an alleged arson plot at a local secondary school after a tip-off led to the arrest of several students suspected of planning to burn down a dormitory.

According to the school principal, Julius Changawa, a security guard received intelligence suggesting that some students were plotting to set fire to one of the dormitories during evening prep hours, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Acting swiftly on the information, the principal and the school’s security team conducted a search at the dormitory, where they found four Form Three students believed to be connected to the plan.

During the operation, school officials discovered a 20-litre jerrican, hidden inside one of the cubicles, containing approximately seven litres of petrol. Additionally, one student was allegedly found with a lighter concealed in his pocket.

Officers from Kambe–Ribe Police Station, accompanied by the Rabai OCPD, arrived at the scene shortly afterward to document the incident. The students were taken into custody for further questioning, and the petrol-filled jerrican was seized as evidence.

Police say the motive behind the attempted arson remains unclear. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
