Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former BBC journalist Alan Kasujja as the new head of the State House Media Centre, effectively making him the government’s chief spokesperson.
Kasujja, a seasoned broadcast journalist, left the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in August 2025, where he was a lead presenter on the World Service programme Newsday and a host of the widely followed Africa Daily podcast.

His appointment marks a notable transition from international journalism to frontline government communication.
Before joining the BBC, Kasujja also worked with Capital News in Nairobi in the early 2000s, gaining regional media experience in Kenya.
He takes over from Ofwono Opondo, who resigned from the position in April 2025 to pursue elective politics.
Opondo is currently the Member of Parliament representing the elderly and is awaiting swearing-in.
Kasujja’s appointment is expected to inject a fresh media approach into the government’s communication strategy, drawing on his extensive international journalism background.
