By Our Reporter,Mumias.

Tension briefly flared at Matungu Police Station on today morning after Matungu Constituency MP Peter Oscar Nabulindo led a group of about 200 residents to protest the arrest of two local men accused of cybercrime-related offences.

Police in their report said that, the MP arrived at the station accompanied by the demonstrators, who were demanding the release of Kelvin Baraza and William Mukoya.

The two had been arrested over alleged misuse of communication gadgets under the Cyber Crime Act, a case that is currently under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The arrests followed a complaint by Mayoni Ward MCA Fredrick Watitwa, who reported that he had been falsely accused online of being a “conveyor of stolen stock” within the Matungu area, claims he strongly denied and described as damaging to his reputation.

Police say the situation was promptly contained after intervention by the Matungu Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC), who engaged both the MP and the protesters.

Calm was restored without any confrontation or damage to property.

The demonstrators later dispersed peacefully, and police confirmed that normalcy has since returned to the area.
