Police in Nairobi are investigating a mob justice incident in which a motorcycle was completely burnt after two suspected phone snatchers narrowly escaped lynching along Kikuyu Road in the Dagoretti area.

According to a police report recorded at Riruta Police Station on Tuesday, the incident was reported at around 11:11pm by an unidentified motorcycle rider.

Officers immediately rushed to the scene, located approximately three kilometres from the station along Kikuyu Road.

Upon arrival, police established that a motorcycle, registration number KMER 180W, a Boxer make, had been set ablaze and completely destroyed.

No victims were found at the scene.

Eyewitnesses told police that the two riders had allegedly attempted to snatch a mobile phone from an unknown pedestrian while the motorcycle was in motion.

In the process, the riders reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and fell, triggering a swift reaction from members of the public who began chasing and beating them.

The suspects are said to have fled the scene while injured, and their identities, condition, and whereabouts remain unknown.

Police removed the burnt motorcycle to Riruta Police Station for further examination.

The case has been booked as Pending Under Investigation (PUI), with detectives from Riruta and the Nairobi Regional Police continuing with inquiries.

Authorities have once again cautioned members of the public against mob justice, warning that such actions are illegal and undermine the rule of law.
